you can't be everything to everyone.
i could end on this statement and be done, or explain.
let me explain.
people have needs. different needs for different people. and bottom line is, you can't meet all of those different needs. you can't be everyone's best friend.
all you can do is be real with what you have - real with people, but also real with yourself. if and when you try to do it all (because you probably will at one point or another), you will see that you just can't. you get stretched too thin because of how far you have been spread. it's like people get your left-overs, instead of the main course.
so decide which people in your life get your main course, and which ones are worthy of only left-overs.
you can't be everything to everyone.

first post of the new year!
december came and went with not a single post, even though it was filled with holiday fun, including two wonderful Nutcracker shows and the Pikes Peak Center by Colorado Youth Ballet. in addition to dancing the Spanish variation for what i believe to be the 6th year in a row (im getting old and can't remember things as well as i used to), i was a maid in the party scene for the sole purpose of debuting my dog, Maggie. presented to a child at the Christmas Eve party, it's safe to say this little white dog completely stole the show. oh ya... and i learned Rat King the day before the show. needless to say, it was only a little unnerving. but in the end, i think we pulled it all off!
Nutcracker aside, i built the most insane gingerbread house ever with my boyfriend. (he was the one with the real experience, i just did as i was told) we spent close to 15 hours on it... but boy did we have something to show in the end.
as we did last year on Christmas Eve morning, we joined some friends down town at Acacia and shared coffee, breakfast, and clothes with our homeless community. it was a good reminder that the holidays are not just about racking up the gifts and the stuff, but showing people that you care, and more importantly, that God always sees you exactly where you are. (btw... most of the time, the homeless really just wanna share their life story with you, so it's good to just listen)
this holiday season was filled with everything it should be. to sum it up in one word, there was a whole lot of LOVE.

i shared this past thanksgiving with the faces that have been familiar to me for the past 20 years; for my 2 sisters-in-law, the past 3 years.
but this year was even more special because of 2 new additions: my adorable 8-month old nephew, and my boyfriend who has (hands down) become my best friend.
happy thanksgiving! for sure.

"30 days has september
april, june, and november," which brings me here. in the middle of the month, the 15th. (only my blog has not been told about the whole daylight savings nonsense and is insisting that it is still the 14th...)
second year in a row that i am participating in No-Shave November. (just the legs though... ;)
it's incredible how fast hair grows in 2 weeks. to think, i'm only half way through the month!
but boy... december 1st comes around and it is all worth it. seriously, after a whole month, it's the best shave of your life.

in a way, it seems unfair that your past has a say in the way you approach your future.
unfair, yet it does make sense.
for example, if you have been hurt in the past - in love, or churches, family or friends - the natural reaction for us as humans is to become more guarded, cautious, and even (in some cases) doubtful. because we have been hurt in the past, a little voice inside a whispers not to trust as you once did. if it happened once, it could happen again, right?
wouldn't it be nice if we lived in a perfect world where we have never been wronged or hurt?
maybe, but it's not gonna happen.
even if it were possible, the phrase "i trust you" would hold little meaning. the people that have never been hurt have not known what broken trust feels like, therefore "i trust you" would roll off the tongue easily, simply because they have no voice inside urging them not to trust.
it's those with trust already damaged that take a risk if they trust again.
think about it: how much more meaning is in "i trust you", when they overlook their past hurts and choose to try again?

entry #2
it was my intention to post once a week, every monday.
however, monday came and went with not as much as a word... i blame this on halloween. i was so excited to be Robin (the sidekick to my Batman), that unfortunately... my blog got neglected. hence, this feeble attempt at a blog post.
but i would say that my first adventure trick or treating was a success... seeing as we came away with roughly 3 pillowcases full of candy.
